New CT Opens for Training

University Hospital Geelong (UHG) is pleased to announce the opening of its second CT, which opened for training of medical imaging staff on Monday 7th January 2019.  The additional CT scanner will vastly improve the availability of CT services to the hospital and community.  This installation, located adjacent to the Emergency Department (ED) in a newly refurbished imaging hub, including ED x-ray and ED Ultrasound will benefit both staff and patients requiring imaging 24/7.

New Technology Brings Clinical Improvements

The Siemens SOMATOM Force CT is a premium CT system with full clinical capabilities, whilst also providing the addition of dual energy CT to the South West Region, including:

  • Faster scanning – even for patients that can’t hold their breath
  • Automated image production for faster reporting
  • Ultra-Low radiation dose CT scans (CT at x-ray dose) for extremity and lung imaging
  • Dual Energy (Spectral) CT – providing improved tissue characterisation, especially useful when imaging cancer and infection, for more diagnostic accuracy and lower radiation to patients.

With this installation, Barwon Medial imaging (BMI) now has four CT scanners across three Barwon Health sites, improving the availability of CT services for the Geelong community.

BMI bulk bill all Medicare reimbursable CT scans, meaning no out-of-pocket costs for patients. To make an appointment phone (03) 4215 0300 or find out what to expect when you have a CT at BMI by  our patient ‘what to expect video’.
